Self-portraiture is an art form dating from the15th century and embraced by photographers since the 19th century. Emblematic of the artists search for identity - the choice of scene, costume, props and perspective are layered with meaning. Our 21st century’s ubiquitous selfie is a shallow facsimile. Alicia Savage embraces exploration, self-discovery, and transformation in her pursuit of an abandoned family homestead in Nova Scotia. Romantic and ethereal her self-portrait series weaves fact, fiction and sensibility.
