Blurring the Boundaries Between Art and Commerce
Center for Digital Arts • Waltham, MA • May 2015
Bob Packert and I have collaborated on the knife-edge of art and commerce for the past 15 years. Faced with a dozen hard drives of data, our first step was culling his stash of elegant and evocative advertising campaigns and fashion editorials. Themes emerged which formed the structure of the show. I drafted up the gallery design, assigning nine areas highlighting each chosen theme.
We created unique output for each theme including:
- Video installation of 15 films synchronized to play in random intervals
- Large format acetate prints backed with corrugated plastic
- Mounted prints in distressed wooden delivery boxes
- An encaustic wall mural
Graffiti artist, Percy Fortinin-Wright, painted on acetate panels featuring B&W portraits from a fashion editorial.
