David Campany Speaks On Robert Cumming

I had the pleasure of listening to David Campany speak on Robert Cumming at the exquisite collaboration, Light Years. This unprecedented contemporary project conceived by Hans P. Kraus, Jr. ( New York) and Jean-Kenta Gauthier (Paris) created an experience in adjacent booths at Paris Photo. The gallerists created a literal and conceptual dialog between 19th century masters and contemporary artists. It was a rich, educational endeavor that highlights the through thread of our medium and the conversation that continues to inform, evolve, and reverberate across time and space.

Cumming was having a moment in the spotlight within and outside Paris Photo. Gallery Luisotti held an informative talk with curator Emilia Mickevicius PhD, Curator of Photography, Center for Creative Photography. And MEP hosted Emilia in conversation with MEP Director, Simon Baker in conjunction with the premier of On Closer Inspection, a poetic documentary on Cummings. It is a work in progress by filmmaker, Noah Rosenberg. View the short film on YouTube here.

And the Jean-Kenta Gauthier Galerie exhibited 2 of the 3 exhibitions on the Art of Robert Cumming — Drawing, Scultping and Performing for the Camera.

Lucky for me, Cumming is featured currently in the Boston MFA’s “Creative Spaces: The Photographer’s Studio As Inspiration” curated by Karen Haas.

I have carried my signed copy of Very Pictorial Conceptual Art beautifully published by Stanley Barker Books home, and know it will continue inspire and intrigue me!
